PURPOSE

 

Under supervision of and collaboration with the Executive Director and Staff, this position will support activities and programs of the Watertown Development Company (WDC) while gaining relevant experience in the respective field of study. The internship program offers project work intended to give a broad exposure to economic development. The nature of assignments will vary, allowing for the opportunity to be creative, while providing a practical and challenging experience.

 

This internship is a 12-week paid opportunity for the period of May 2026 through August 2026. The dates will be flexible per schedule and availability of the candidate.

 

DUTIES

 

Community Intern Engagement

  • Collaborate with staff to organize an intern-focused event.
  • Assist in distribution in the intern padfolio.
  • Assist in marketing opportunities.

 

Community Childcare Initiative

  • Collaborate with Codington County Connects to develop childcare assistance programs.
  • Participate in reoccurring childcare discussions.
  • Coordinate with staff to engage with community partners to implement programs at proposed childcare sites.

 

Housing Initiatives

  • Contribute to data entry and record management.
  • Assist in tasks related to qualitative and quantitative data collection compilation, analyses, and the development of reports, per direction of the Housing team.
  • Attend partner meetings as requested by the Housing Team.

 

Target Analysis Initiative

  • Provide support to staff on strategic initiatives such as attending meetings and preparing materials.

 

Economic Experiences and Responsibilities

  • Participate in community outreach events.
  • Explore opportunities for business development and marketing techniques.
  • Explore finance and grant opportunities for business development.
  • Compose letters and emails to community stakeholders.
  • Professionally interact with city and state officials.
  • Support various office duties by exploring internal processes and make recommendations for improvement.

 

Other Duties

  • Organizational support.
  • Assist with professional development opportunities.
  • Support the development of marketing and campaign materials, as well as outreach efforts to engage the Watertown community.
